Give your home interior the tribal treatment with some great prints, colours and designs that are leaping onto the market. Here are some hot buys with a great African flair and finish that’ll give the home an instant ethnic revamp.


Bring a little African style into your habitat this season. There are some wonderful accessories and home furnishings around with an emphasis on ethnic culture. There are many common elements to include in the home interior to achieve that tribal touch - be on the hunt for rich woods with large, stylised details, as opposed to intricate carvings and fancy scrollwork. Must-have fabrics are those that are bursting with texture and lets not forget the brilliant animal print! African-Americans tend to use African art, handmade furniture and patterned fabrics as an expression of their heritage. World traveller’s display art, fabrics and artefacts of Africa in their home as reminders of their travels. If you’re lucky enough to travel to exotic and cultural locations, then try to pick up some genuine artefacts whilst away. A few select pieces can really give the room that extra authentic finish.

By taking inspiration from African cultures, you can blend a magnificent variation of colours, patterns textures and shapes for a look that represents such a rich and cultural style of the continent. The African décor theme is a distinctive decorating style that can provide a primitive, yet sophisticated appeal to the home.

Get the look
1. Be inspired by colour hues that reflect the African culture and traditions. Earthy tones are a popular colour palette to achieve that ethnic style. Look out for shades of peach, orange, green, yellow and brown and black used as an accent colour.
2. Add a traditional colonial look to your home by introducing exotic animal prints, grand pieces of furniture and embossed accessories.
